Android Chief Andy Rubin Sends His First Tweet — And It’s Aimed At Steve Jobs

Now, I have no way to know for sure that this is actually Android chief Andy Rubin. First of all, it’s late and Twitter isn’t returning my emails. Secondly, Twitter has shut down their verified account program for the time being. That said, I’m pretty sure this is the real Andy Rubin on Twitter. And I’m pretty sure he just tweeted for the first time. And I’m pretty sure that tweet is a direct response to Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ comments earlier today.

All that being said, without further ado, here is what appears to be Andy Rubin’s tweet:

the definition of open: “mkdir android ; cd android ; repo init -u git:// ; repo sync ; make”

For those keeping score at home, that’s Rubin using some geeked-out lingo to explain exactly what open is to Steve Jobs. In other words: Android.

So why do I think this is actually Rubin? Well, he’s only following his wife. And she’s following him. And she just welcomed him to the service. So unless that account is fake as well, this all seems legit enough to me. Rubin has about 100 followers right now. That should skyrocket shortly.

Welcome to Twitter, Andy! I wouldn’t expect a response from Jobs, as he doesn’t use the service. But maybe Apple SVP Scott Forstall will respond instead (he has yet to tweet and still only follows Conan)?

[thanks Jon]
